Spent $400 on a turbo kit before my buddy Mike said I should check the compression first
Turns out I had a blown head gasket on my 1998 Civic the whole time. Anyone else ever rush into mods without checking the basics first?

Exactly what @hayes.elliot said. I see the same thing with people buying expensive air fryers or stand mixers when their kitchen outlets are all fried and they don't know why the breaker trips every time. Gotta fix the foundation before you add the cool stuff.

There's a bigger pattern here that shows up everywhere, not just with cars. People jump straight to the cool upgrade without checking if the foundation is solid first. Seen it with guys putting big wheels on rusted trucks, people upgrading phone speakers before fixing the battery drain, or even friends buying expensive kitchen gadgets when their stove barely works. The basics like compression, timing, maintenance, they're boring so everyone skips them. But a turbo on a blown head gasket is just throwing money at a problem you haven't even identified. Fix the leak first, then see if you even need the turbo.
