Showerthought: my $22 catch can fitting cracked and dumped oil mist all over the headers
Went to check my catch can setup on Sunday morning and noticed the brass fitting at the bottom had a hairline crack running most of the way around it. I had cranked it down way too hard when I put the kit on about 4 months back, so the threads were already stressed before any heat got to it. When I started the car, oil vapor sprayed onto the header wrap and I got a nice little smoke show in the driveway before I shut it off. Swapped in a barbed fitting with a couple wraps of thread tape and snugged it just past hand tight this time. Has anyone found a decent metal fitting that doesn't crack when you torque it down, or do you just run everything finger tight and pray?
