My $80 cold air intake gave me worse gas mileage than stock

Bought a cheap intake off Amazon thinking it would add some power, but my MPG dropped 5 miles per gallon over three weeks. Has anyone else had a budget mod backfire on daily driving?

That cold air intake is probably just sucking in hot air from the engine bay since its not properly sealed. The stock box is actually engineered to pull in cold air from outside, but those cheap amazon intakes just sit open under the hood. I made the same mistake on my civic and my mpg tanked by like 4 miles per gallon because the ecu was pulling timing from the heat soak. Ended up just putting the stock box back on and sold the intake for 20 bucks on facebook. You might want to try wrapping the tube in some thermal tape or making a heat shield out of some scrap aluminum if you want to salvage it.

@dylan265 beat me to it, my intake turned my engine bay into a hot air fryer too.
