Finally stopped chasing loud exhausts after riding in a properly tuned setup
Last month my buddy in Denver took me for a spin in his turbo build with a custom 3 inch setup and quiet muffler, and the power delivery felt way smoother than my straight piped car. I always thought loud meant fast, but his car pulled harder through 3rd gear at half the noise. 3 years ago I spent $400 on a catback that drones on the highway and honestly sounds like a lawnmower on cold starts. It hit me that I was tuning for attention, not for the actual driving feel. Has anyone else switched priorities from sound to drivability and noticed a bigger difference in how the car responds?

Man, hate to break it to you but a muffler alone doesn't add power, it just changes the sound. What actually made the car pull harder was the tune, not the quiet exhaust. Most stock mufflers flow fine for a daily driver, the restriction is usually up at the headers or the cat. So it's not that quiet equals more power, it's that the tune woke the motor up and the muffler just stopped making you deaf. Guys slap on a loud cat back and lose torque down low because they killed the back pressure with no tune to go with it. You got the right combo, quiet plus tuned, but let's not pretend the muffler was the magic part.
