Checked my valve lash after 80k miles and found half the specs were way off
I finally got around to checking the valve lash on my 2012 Tacoma this weekend, mostly because I could hear that tick getting louder. Pulled the covers and measured all 16 valves, turns out 7 of them were out of spec, some by almost 0.004 inches. That ticking I blamed on normal Toyota noises was actually a loose exhaust valve the whole time. I used a cheap feeler gauge set from Harbor Freight that cost like $9, and it worked fine. The weird part is my mileage never dropped and I didn't lose power, so I almost ignored it for another year. Anyone else put off valve adjustments way longer than the manual says? What did your clearance look like when you finally checked?
