Almost set my fuse box on fire with a cheap LED install

I was swapping out my license plate lights in the driveway last Tuesday and accidentally touched the bare wire to the chassis. Sparks flew and my whole dash went dark for a solid 10 seconds while I panicked. Anyone else have a near miss like that wiring up simple stuff?

Blew a fuse in my buddy's garage last summer doing the exact same thing with a trailer light kit. Heard on a car forum that most of those cheap LED kits don't have proper resistors or something, so they can short out real easy if you nudge the wrong wire. My whole license plate circuit just went dead and I had to dig through his junk drawer for a 10 amp fuse, which of course was the one size he didn't have.

Dude, right?! I did almost the exact same thing with a cheap LED strip for my tailgate. Hooked it up, everything looked fine, then I bumped a wire and the whole interior light just died. Ended up blowing a 15 amp fuse and had to borrow one from my buddy's lawnmower just to get home. Those kits are absolute garbage if you don't wire them perfect the first time.
