I'm finally ready to tune my 2.7 EcoBoost and I'm torn between 5 Star Tuning and Livernois Motorsports. Both seem to have great reputations, but I'm not sure which route to go. Livernois requires their proprietary tuner, while 5 Star uses SCT/Bully Dog devices. What are the pros and cons of each from your experience?

I lean towards 5 Star Tuning mainly because you aren't locked into a proprietary device. If you ever decide to sell the truck or change tuners, an SCT device holds its resale value better. Plus, their customer service and turnaround times for revisions are top notch.

That's exactly why I went with the SCT route as well. The proprietary tuner was a dealbreaker for me. Also, the revised shift points from 5 Star are incredible, it totally fixed the clunky 10-speed on mine.

Livernois makes great stuff, don't get me wrong, their tunes are super safe and reliable. But I prefer the flexibility of 5 Star too. You can get multiple tunes (tow, daily, performance) and switch them out easily depending on what you're doing that weekend.
