Wasted a whole afternoon and $90 on a universal dryer belt that just wouldn't fit right

Honestly, I got a call for a squealing dryer last week and figured it was a simple belt swap. The old one was cracked, so I grabbed a universal kit from the supply house for about $90. Tbh, the box said it fit 'most 29-inch dryers' and I didn't think twice. Spent over two hours fighting with it, trying every routing diagram. It kept riding up on the drum or slipping off the idler pulley. Ngl, I was getting pretty frustrated. Finally called the parts desk and read them the model number off the machine. Turns out this specific Whirlpool needs a belt that's a quarter-inch shorter, part number 341241. The universal one was just close enough to trick me. Has anyone else been burned by a 'universal' part that wasn't?

Ever check the manufacturer's website first?

Universal parts are the "one size fits all" hat of the repair world, always a gamble. That quarter inch difference is just enough to ruin your whole day. Sounds like the supply house owes you a coffee for that wild goose chase.
