Vent: blew $60 on a leak detector and it screamed at a perfectly dry dishwasher

Bought one of those electronic leak sniffers for $60 after chasing a mystery puddle under a customer's dishwasher for two service calls, and the thing went off like a smoke alarm the second I walked in the door. Turns out it was picking up the humidity from the vent hood, not a leak, so I spent 20 minutes pulling the unit out for nothing while the homeowner watched me from the doorway. The actual leak was a $4 drain hose clamp that I found by hand in about 90 seconds once I unplugged the fancy toy. Now it sits in my van as a paperweight while I go back to the flashlight and paper towel method. Anybody got one of these that actually works, or am I just not holding my mouth right?
