Tried using a Shop-Vac to dry out a flooded washing machine control board and ended up frying the whole unit instead

I pulled the board after a supply line burst on a Samsung washer in a basement in Cleveland, hit it with the vac for 10 minutes on low, plugged it back in, and it sparked like a firecracker - has anyone actually had luck drying boards this way or is it always a death sentence?

Honestly, did you check if any moisture was trapped under the chips before you powered it up?

I used to be pretty casual about that sort of thing, honestly. I figured as long as the board looked dry on top, it was fine to just plug it in. But a friend of mine lost a decent laptop that way a couple years back, and it really opened my eyes. Now I always wait at least a day after any spill or humidity issue just to be safe, and I even check under the big chips with a magnifying glass if I can. You learn the hard way sometimes, but this is good advice worth passing on.
