Overheard a tech say 'check the thermal fuse first' and it saved me 2 hours

I was swapping out a whole control board on a Whirlpool dryer because it wasn't heating. Another guy at the supply house said try the thermal fuse before anything else. Sure enough, it was blown and cost me like $8 at Parts Town. Has anyone else had a simple fix that made you feel dumb for overcomplicating it?

check the thermal fuse first" is solid advice. I've done the same thing on a Maytag, swapped a whole board before remembering the fuse. Feels dumb but now I always check that cheap part first.

Yeah I saw a video where someone broke down like three different dryers and all of them just needed a fuse swap. Makes you wonder how many perfectly good machines end up in the dump for no reason.
