Overheard a landlord brag about using flex seal on a water heater leak

I was at a supply house last week and this guy was telling his buddy how he fixed a leaky water heater with flex seal tape instead of replacing the element. Said it held for 6 months and saved him $400. I just stood there quiet but inside I was screaming. Ive had to rip out three water heaters this year alone because of that exact hack job. Has anyone else run into landlords doing stuff like that with appliances?

Doubt it's THAT common, most landlords are too lazy to even try fixing stuff.

2530 in rent and the water heater went out for 3 days before they even sent a guy out... you really have to stay on top of them with texts and photos to get anything done around here. Keep a paper trail of every request, it's the only language lazy landlords seem to understand.
