I used to fight with those cheap plastic multimeters for years.

Finally got a Fluke 117 after a job in Phoenix where my old one gave me a bad reading on a fridge board. The difference is night and day. The Fluke just works, every time, and the auto-ranging saves me so much hassle. How many of you guys have made the switch and what model did you pick?

Yeah, I held onto a cheapo meter for way too long... finally grabbed a Fluke 87V after getting zapped on a motor control circuit because of a ghost voltage reading. The thing just feels solid, and having true RMS for those weird variable frequency drives was a game changer for me.

Gotta wonder if we're all just falling for the brand name hype sometimes. I mean, getting zapped sucks, but was that really the meter's fault or just a sketchy work situation? Plenty of decent budget meters handle true RMS now without costing a fortune. It feels like a lot of guys buy the fancy tool just to feel like a pro, even if their old one was doing the job fine.
