Tricked an AI image generator into making a blueprint that actually worked
I was messing around with DALL-E 3 last week trying to get it to draw up a simple floor plan for a backyard shed I'm building. Instead of just asking for a shed blueprint, I typed in something like "architectural drawing of a 10x12 shed with labeled dimensions and a roof truss layout" expecting nonsense. It came back with a super detailed plan that had actual measurements and a materials list in the corner. The truss spacing looked legit so I showed it to my buddy who does construction. He said the span and load bearing stuff was close enough to real that I could build off it if I adjust for local codes. I learned that these tools can spit out surprisingly functional technical stuff if you feed them really specific terms like "architectural plan view" or "engineering schematic." Has anyone else used image generators for something practical like this instead of just art?

Honestly, if you want to keep this working, pair your prompt with "detailed line drawing" to avoid the AI adding weird textures that mess up measurements. Tbh, load bearing numbers can be off by about 10% sometimes so double check with local code before you start cutting wood. Ngl, these generators are way better for getting a rough layout than most people give them credit for.
