Tinkering with melodies got a lot easier with AI assistants.
I used to record song ideas on cassette tapes and often misplace them. Now, a simple app listens to my hums and writes out the notes for me. It even pops up with harmony lines that match my rough drafts. Sure, it guesses wrong sometimes, but it cuts out the grunt work so I can play more.

Yeah I've been messing with some of those apps too. What really helps me is humming the main line first, then going back and trying the harmony suggestions one at a time. I found it guesses chords better if you keep your hum really simple and on beat. Sometimes I'll even record a bad take on purpose just to see what weird chord it suggests, and that actually sparked a cool idea last week. The big thing is it lets you catch a melody before it flies out of your brain forever, which is half the battle. Lets you stay in that creative zone instead of breaking out the old notebook and trying to remember what you were just whistling.

Record your hum with a steady pulse, maybe tap your foot to keep time. This helps the app lock onto the melody better, like @quinn_kim said about staying on beat. I've found that if you vary the rhythm slightly after the first take, it can suggest more interesting harmonies. Sometimes I'll hum the melody in different octaves to see if the app picks up on chord changes. The key is to not overthink it and let the app do its thing while you stay creative. Capturing that initial idea fast means you can build on it without losing the spark.

My cousin hummed a jingle for days but forgot it after a sneeze, so tech help is gold.
