That moment when an AI app read a menu for me in a small Italian town
I was stuck in this little place near Naples and couldn't understand the handwritten menu at all. I pulled out my phone and used one of those live translation apps that just scans the text. I mean, idk how it does it so fast, but it popped up English right on the screen. Maybe it's just me but it hit me how these tools are quietly changing how we explore. Now I keep thinking about all the other ways AI could smooth out travel hassles.

But how often do these translation apps mess up with handwritten or dialect-heavy text? I used one in a French market and it turned 'fromage de tête' into 'head cheese' literally, which isn't wrong but sure doesn't sound appetizing. Makes you wonder if AI will ever catch the cultural context, not just the words.

Rural Italy's bus schedules need AI translation too.

It's like so much local knowledge just never makes it online in a way outsiders can get. You see it with small town bakery hours or which market stall has the best produce. It leaves you feeling permanently on the outside.
