Just realized AI voice assistants aren't useless after all
Had a fire at a warehouse downtown last week and my hands were full with gear. Yelled at my phone to call dispatch and it actually worked through all the noise. That one moment changed my mind about smart speakers being just gimmicks. Anyone else have a real world use that surprised you?

Oh yeah I was totally in the same boat... thought they were just toys for playing music badly. Then last month I was trying to unclog a drain and had both arms elbow deep in gunky water when I needed to look up how to get a p-trap back together. Just yelled "hey google how to reassemble a p-trap" and it pulled up a video instantly... hands still dripping water everywhere. Still annoying as hell half the time but that one moment made me appreciate it way more.

Oh come on, one lucky save doesnt prove anything. I tried asking mine to set a timer while my hands were covered in pizza grease and it just sat there going "im sorry I didnt catch that" like five times before I gave up and washed my hands. Thats my daily reality with these things. They cant even tell the difference between "turn off the kitchen lights" and "turn off the lights" so suddenly Im standing in the dark with a pizza box wondering what I did wrong. And dont get me started on how they randomly decide to blare a podcast at 3am because it misheard a cat sneeze. That warehouse call was a fluke lol.
