Spent 6 months painting stripes the wrong direction until a kid pointed it out

I was painting a dresser for my mom's porch, doing these vertical stripes that kept looking off no matter how many coats I added. Turns out I was painting the stripes perpendicular to the drawer pulls, so every time she opened a drawer, the pattern looked broken. A neighbor's 9 year old asked why I was fighting the wood grain, and that's when it clicked. I flipped the design horizontal and did the whole thing again in about 4 hours. Has anyone else had a paint job that only made sense after someone else saw it fresh?

My sister's ladder was facing the wrong way for two weeks until her dog barked at it, and @the_barbara, that grain trick saved my whole kitchen cabinet flip too.

the wood grain thing is actually a real trick, drawers and doors usually have a direction that looks right. so your neighbor's kid kinda saved you from a whole lotta do-overs, good on them for speaking up.
