My refrigerator's ice maker died after 11 years, now I'm a bagged ice convert

Last Tuesday the ice maker in my old fridge just stopped. No noise, no warning, just a sad little tray of cubes that never dropped. I spent two days troubleshooting, pulling the unit apart, even watched a video where a guy replaced a $6 solenoid. Gave up and bought a bag of ice from the gas station for $2.50. Honestly it's been a week and I'm not sure I'll fix it. Has anyone else just abandoned a broken appliance feature and found the basic workaround better?

I was dead set against giving up on my ice maker for years, mainly because I told myself bags were just overpriced water. Then mine quit and I realized I've spent the last month buying bags and honestly, my coffee tastes better and I don't have to listen to that grinding noise at 2am anymore. The only downside is I now have a freezer drawer full of loose cubes that roll out like marbles every time I open it, so I've started putting them in a bowl like some kind of classy raccoon.
