My old cassette player came back to life after 14 years in a closet

Last week I dug out a Sony Walkman from 2008 that had been sitting in a box at my parents' house outside Portland. Put fresh batteries in it, and it fired up on the first try, which honestly shocked me. The belt had turned to goo back in 2011 when I tried to fix it, so I figured it was dead for good. A $9 replacement belt from an online parts shop got it running again, and the sound from my old Pearl Jam tape took me right back to high school. Has anyone else had luck reviving old gear with just a cheap replacement part?
