The repair manual slash sci fi combo nobody talks about

I keep seeing people pair a dense fantasy epic with a baking book, but nobody mentions a factory service manual next to a space horror novel. I fixed my old Ford F-150 using a 1987 shop manual and read The Expanse the same week, and the way both break down complex systems really clicked. Anyone else got a technical reference that weirdly syncs up with a fiction pick?

The way both break down complex systems really clicked, that part got me good. I had the same thing happen with a Haynes manual for my old Jeep and the Murderbot Diaries. There's something about seeing a step by step breakdown of a fuel pump replacement and then reading about a security unit troubleshooting its own hacked governor module that just hits the same gear in my brain. Both are basically saying, here is the mess, here is the order to fix it, and here is what happens if you skip a step. I even started labeling my tool drawer with the same logic the book uses for its threat assessments. Weirdly satisfying, and it made me way less scared to tear into the transmission.
