Sticky door hinge squeak fixed with a crayon, of all things
Every hinge in my hallway was screaming like a haunted house, especially the one on the bathroom door. I tried WD-40 and it came back after a week, so I looked it up and saw someone suggest rubbing a crayon along the pin. Worked way better than I expected, no mess, and it's been quiet for about 3 months now. Anyone got a trick for the latch that still catches a little no matter how much I file it?

...and honestly that crayon trick saved my buddy Dave's sanity last summer. His screen door hinge sounded like a dying cat every time the wind blew, and he was ready to just take the whole door off. He tried the crayon thing after seeing it in some random Reddit thread, and he said it was actually quieter than the day he installed it. Now for the latch thing, Dave had the same problem on his workshop door, he fixed it by putting a tiny bit of paraffin wax on the striker plate instead of filing it. That gave him just enough slickness to stop the catch without having to mess with the metal, might be worth a shot before you file more.
