The clocktower puzzle in Riven made me pull out a notepad for real

I visited the replica of the Myst island at a science museum in Seattle last month, and they had one of the original Riven stations set up. The way the 233rd rotation on the dome lines up with the gold dome sunset just hit me differently when I could see the physical markers. It made me realize how much of that game is hidden in observable patterns, not just trial and error. Anyone else get stuck on that part for weeks and then feel dumb when it clicked?

lmao you went to a museum for this? i beat that puzzle by brute forcing every combo while half asleep on a couch, no notepad needed. the "hidden patterns" thing sounds deep but really it's just a fancy way of saying the game rewards staring at stuff long enough. glad the replica made it click for you though, but weeks on that clocktower feels like a personal choice when walkthroughs existed even back then lol.
