My friend said I was overthinking Quern, and she was right

I spent three nights stuck on that gear puzzle near the observatory in Quern. I was drawing diagrams, counting teeth on the cogs, even timing how long the sounds lasted. My friend watched me for ten minutes and said 'you are way overthinking this, just look at the clue on the wall again.' Turned out I had the right order all along but was turning the crank backwards. After that I started paying attention to the obvious hints first before diving into the deep logic. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple observation from someone else solved a puzzle you had been fighting for hours?

Actually the "obvious hint" being wrong would make her advice pointless, so you're still overthinking by trusting it blindly.
