Just realized my clue notebook was useless after 40 hours in The Witness

I was stuck on the desert temple for three days and flipped back through my notes, turns out I wrote the wrong symbol directions on like 12 pages because my pen was smudging. Has anyone else had a whole puzzle run derailed by bad note taking, or do you guys use a specific app now?

Man I once lost a whole Zelda playthrough cause my notes said the water temple key was somewhere it totally wasnt.
