My weighted bookend bracket bent after 2 weeks of heavy hardcovers

Last month I picked up a pair of those angled metal brackets from a local shop in Portland to hold my largest reference books on the bottom shelf. They looked sturdy, but after 2 weeks the left one folded like paper under a full set of encyclopedias. The next morning I found my entire row slanted and two books with cracked spines on the floor. I swapped them for a solid wooden block style and zero issues since. Anyone else have brackets fail on deep shelves, or do you just avoid metal ones altogether?

Oh man, that exact thing happened to me with a set of those angled brackets too, mine gave out under some old textbooks and took out the whole shelf. I mean, maybe the wooden ones just handle the weight way better, cause I switched and havent looked back since.
