A friend said my shelves looked like a warehouse, so I quit color-coding everything

After she pointed out that my rainbow arrangement made it impossible to find anything without a treasure map, I switched to grouping by author last spring and now I actually use my library instead of just staring at it, anyone else make the jump from pretty to practical?

Oh man, I totally get this. I did the exact same thing a few years back. My shelves looked like a candy store but I couldn't find my own cookbooks without Googling them. Switched to grouping by genre first, then author within that, and honestly it changed everything. Now I grab a book in like ten seconds flat and actually read way more. Practical wins, sorry rainbow...
