My boss's "always escalate in writing" advice backfired hard

My old manager at a warehouse in Newark kept saying put every complaint in an email, no verbal talk. I followed that for a safety issue with a broken pallet jack back in March. Got a written warning for "creating a hostile paper trail" while the guy who mentioned it casually got a new one the next day. The lesson I learned is context matters more than blanket advice. Anyone else get burned following a mentor's one-size-fits-all tip?

You ever write one of those emails that sounds fine in your head, then read it back later and it reads like a robot scream? That's how I got banned from the break room microwave list.
