My GPS unit used to get me lost in the woods, now my phone does it in a parking lot
Ten years ago I trusted a Garmin eTrex with AA batteries through 4 miles of Vermont forest and only missed the cache once, but today I followed Google Maps to a geocache behind a Walmart and it dropped me in a loading dock, so has anyone else switched back to old-school gear after a phone let them down?

Heard a story on a podcast about search and rescue teams finding people who followed GPS straight into swamps, so you're not alone in this. The battery life alone on those old Garmins was a beast too, mine lasted a week on two AAs. Honestly, for any real outdoor trip I'd trust a paper map over a phone signal these days.
