Rant: My VA billed me for 14 hours she never worked

I hired a VA in March to manage my Etsy customer service, about 20 hours a week. She was polite, replied fast, and I didn't think twice about the time sheets until I noticed a pattern: she always logged exactly 8 hours on days when my sales were slow. I pulled the detailed log and saw timestamps that overlapped with my own messages to her, which made no sense. When I asked for a call to sort it out, she blocked me and the platform said they couldn't refund because I approved the hours. What do you use to track remote workers that actually catches this stuff, or am I just being naive about trusting people?

That exact ratio thing, 8 hours on slow days, is the tell. It reminds me of how people round up their miles on a tax form or add a few extra minutes to their timesheet at a regular job. Most folks are honest until they realize nobody is actually checking, then they just start taking whatever they think they can get away with.
