Just realized my $45 email tool was costing me more than it saved

Tbh I signed up for this autoresponder thing because the free plan maxed out at 500 contacts. Paid $45 a month for 2 years without checking if my list even grew past 400. Deleted it last week and switched to a simple Gmail merge, my open rates are actually the same. Has anyone else overpaid for a tool they stopped using years ago?
