I always figured fancy flavored syrups were a gimmick, but I grabbed a small jar at a local market in Portland last month just to see. It cost $7, and honestly I expected it to taste like a candle, but it was actually incredible on plain yogurt. I was wrong about the whole category, and now I'm checking every weird condiment shelf for small-batch stuff. Has anyone else been burned by a trendy pantry item that actually turned out to be worth the money?
