Went from a $3,000 espresso machine back to a $25 moka pot and I'm not sorry
Had the full home barista setup for like 4 years. Grinder, machine, the whole counter covered in gear. Then the pump died right before my night shift week started in March and I couldn't justify the repair cost. Picked up a cheap moka pot at the grocery store out of desperation. Honestly the coffee is stronger and I don't miss the 20 minute warm up routine. Takes 5 minutes total. My only question is, has anyone else downsized their coffee setup and actually preferred the simpler stuff? Or am I just telling myself that to save $300 in repairs?

honestly this kinda tracks with how everything else is going lately. like people are ditching their huge SUV's for compact cars and realizing they never needed all that space, or going back to flip phones because the smartphone was just too much. we've all been sold this idea that more stuff and more expensive stuff equals better, but half the time it just means more maintenance and more stress. your moka pot situation is just another proof that the fanciest version of something isnt always the best version for your actual life. sometimes the basic tool that does one thing well wins every single time.
