Our crew switched to water-based coatings and I was totally wrong about them
I always thought oil-based paints were the only tough choice for steel. We tried a water-based coat on a bridge last fall because of new rules. It dried fast, smelled way better, and held up through the winter storms. Now I see it cuts down on fumes and waste without losing strength. I'm telling every ironworker I meet to give it a shot.

Wait, so you're telling me you used to be one of those guys who argued about oil-based being the only real paint? And now you're all changed after one bridge job? Guess you're gonna start telling us the sky is blue next. Honestly, it's kinda funny when the tough old-school guys get won over by paint that doesn't stink up the whole site. My uncle swore by the old stuff too, till he tried a water-based coat on his truck frame. Never heard the end of it.

Changing your view after seeing results isn't about being weak, is it? That bridge job probably showed how water-based holds up in tough conditions. Old-timers stick with oil because it worked for years, but new stuff can surprise you. Your uncle's truck frame is a good example, but every project has its own needs. Why dismiss someone for learning something new from hands-on work? Sometimes the best lessons come from trying both and seeing what lasts.

My garage still smells like oil-based paint from my 'never change' days... oops.
