Did my cortisol crash cause that panic attack at the DMV last Tuesday?
Waiting 3 hours for my license renewal, my heart started racing out of nowhere and I nearly bolted. I'm wondering if the constant stress of that place tanked my adrenal response or if it was just my body overreacting. Anyone else hit a physical breaking point in a random public building and blame hormones first?

...but honestly I think you're giving the DMV way too much credit here. Bodies dont just randomly crash because you sat in a plastic chair for a few hours. That place is boring sure, but boring isnt biological warfare. The real culprit is probably the fact you haven't eaten right or slept well all week, and your blood sugar took a nosedive right as you stood up to check the number board. Panic attacks are more about your brain misreading a normal heart flutter than some adrenal tank emptying out on you. Ive sat through way worse situations with way less drama, and my cortisol is fine. Youre looking for a villain in the building when the real story is just you being run down and your nervous system doing its weird thing.

Yeah, been there. Trick that saved me was the old trick of tensing every muscle in your body for ten seconds, then letting go. Do that three times while you're waiting. Sounds dumb but it actually resets your nervous system. Also, keep a snack in your bag. Granola bar or something. The blood sugar crash is real, I blacked out at a pharmacy counter once waiting for a refill. Since I started eating something small before I go anywhere with long waits, it stopped happening. The DMV is boring but your body doesn't care, it just reacts to the drop. That's the real fix, not blaming the chairs.
