How did they survive such procedures without anesthesia?

Cool topic, I dove into that same research last year. They used things like coca leaves and had a real clean way of working. It's wild how good they were at it.

No anesthesia just coca leaves? That's hard to wrap my head around. Cutting into a skull with just some leaves to numb it sounds brutal. The success rates they had are honestly the wildest part.
