A scorpion in my boot taught me to always check before lacing up.

Scorpions like dark spots, so boots are a common hiding place. You should not just look, but turn the boot over and tap it hard on the ground. In places like the desert, people often keep their shoes in a plastic bin with a lid. A friend of mine learned the hard way after a painful sting from a missed scorpion.

Oh wow, that's so true! Tapping them hard is key, but I'd also shake them out really well before putting your foot in. Those plastic bins are a good idea, but make sure the lid snaps tight, cause scorpions can squeeze through small gaps. My cousin got stung once because he left his shoes on the porch overnight, and it was a nasty experience. Another thing is to keep the area around your shoes clean, so scorpions don't have places to hide nearby. It's crazy how such a small thing can cause so much pain, so better safe than sorry lol.
