A customer swore by using toothpaste to polish a scratched scope lens

He came in last Tuesday with an old Leupold that had a fine scratch on the front glass. Said he'd fixed worse with a dab of regular Crest and a soft cloth. I thought he was nuts, but he was so sure I tried a tiny spot on the edge. After about five minutes of gentle circles, the haze actually cleared up. It's just a mild abrasive, I guess. Has anyone else heard of this weird trick, or did I just get lucky?

Just be careful not to scratch it more, right?

Yeah, @milalopez has the right idea. That baking soda trick can make it way worse.
