Try a slower ramp rate for your clay.

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I bought a super expensive bread maker. Followed the book exactly and got a brick. Turns out my kitchen is just too cold for it to work right.

That's rough, but maybe the controller needs a different firing schedule? I've heard some of the fancy ones can mess up if you just use the default settings. Might be worth looking up a tutorial for your specific clay body.
