My backup monitor died the night before a LAN party in Columbus

I was setting up for a big Saturday night LAN with the old crew, the one where everyone brings their whole tower and we cram into one basement, and my trusty second monitor just went black with a pop and a burnt plastic smell around 11pm Friday. After panicking for an hour I dug out a 2008 17-inch square LCD from my garage that's been collecting dust, plugged it in, and it somehow worked even though the colors are all weird. Anyone else riding an ancient spare screen after a gear failure, or do you guys just go straight to buying a replacement?

wait, you actually had a 2008 monitor just sitting around in your garage? that thing is like 17 years old, i'm amazed it even turned on. the burnt plastic smell would've sent me straight to best buy at midnight, no way i'm trusting a screen that popped like that. honestly the weird colors sound kinda fitting for a LAN party though, like retro gaming vibes or something lol. my old spare is from like 2015 and i still complain about it, so you're on another level with that relic. just pray it doesn't die mid-round of whatever you guys play, because that would be the most painful way to lose. keep a fire extinguisher nearby just in case, seriously.
