My phone's battery was draining crazy fast after the last update

I was losing like 40% charge before lunch, which never happened before. I went into the battery settings and saw 'Google Play Services' was using a huge chunk of power. On a whim, I cleared its cache and data, then restarted. The drain stopped almost completely the next day. Has anyone else fixed a weird battery hog this way?

My Fitbit app did the same thing and clearing its data fixed it overnight.

Clearing app data is the tech version of turning it off and on again, but it actually works half the time. @the_brooke is onto something with the Fitbit fix, it's wild how a simple reset can stop a battery murder spree. My old phone used to get eaten alive by some weather app until I nuked its data. These background services just seem to lose their minds after an update. It's a good first step before you start blaming the battery itself.
