My $80 'smart' egg tray was a complete dud

It claimed to track freshness via an app, but the sensors never connected after three days of trying. I'm out the cash and still just sniffing eggs like a normal person. Are these hyper-specific smart gadgets ever worth the premium, or is it mostly marketing?

Did they forget to make it smart enough to connect?

Feels like they built it to do one thing and forgot the rest. The whole point is to link up with other stuff, right? So if it can't do that basic job, what's even the point. It's just a shiny box that sits there. Honestly makes you wonder what they were thinking during the whole design phase.

Shiny box that sits there" is exactly what happened to my buddy. He bought one, got it home, and it just wouldn't talk to his other gear. He ended up using it as a very expensive paperweight for a few months before selling it.
