Bought a $30 smart plug to turn my coffee maker on from bed. It worked so well I forgot how to use the actual button.

My old alarm clock is just a paperweight now. I set my lights to fade in and the plug to start the kettle at 6:45. The routine is so locked in, I actually fumbled with the manual switch on my toaster oven last week. It's like my brain has fully outsourced morning tasks to the schedule.

Totally get that, the muscle memory just vanishes. Best trick is to leave a sticky note on the appliance for a week or two as a backup reminder. Did that with my own coffee pot after I stood there like an idiot one morning. It helps retrain your brain for the rare times the wifi drops out.

The sticky note trick actually makes a ton of sense. I used to think routine was enough, but you're right, the second the wifi hiccups my brain just blanks on everything.
