Finally got the hang of fixing that awful orange peel texture on a big lacquer job in my garage shop.

Ugh, seriously? That orange peel is a classic sign of a hand-sprayed finish and it's got SO much more character than some boring, flat factory look. All that perfect, glass-smooth stuff just feels plastic and cheap now. I'd take a little texture any day, it shows someone actually made the thing. My old guitar has it and the light plays off it way better.

Oh man, @harper_owens, I could not disagree more. A little texture is one thing, but bad orange peel just looks like a messed up finish to me. It feels rough and unfinished, not artsy. Getting a smooth flow coat is the whole goal, and it's way harder to do right. That glassy feel is the real sign of skill, not skipping the sanding steps.
