A client in Tacoma told me my finish looked like plastic.
They said the top coat was too thick and had no depth. I was using 3 coats of a 2K poly. Now I do a thin seal coat, then rub on some oil before the final clear. Makes the grain pop way more. Anyone else get that kind of feedback and switch things up?

My buddy Mark in Spokane had the exact same thing happen on a walnut table last year. A customer told him the finish looked like a laminate countertop, which really stung. He was also using a thick 2K poly straight from the can. He switched to a similar method, using a single wiped-on coat of oil first. The difference was night and day, and he said he'll never go back to just building up clear coats alone.

Yeah, that oil trick is a total game changer.
