My grandma's recipe for 'Depression Cake' from 1932. Everyone says it's too plain, but I made it last week and it's better than any box mix.

Actually, @victor_lane60, it's the lack of eggs and butter that makes it so moist...

The vinegar and baking soda reaction is what gives it that tender crumb, and @beth_patel4 is right that skipping the dairy is what keeps it from getting dense after a day or two.
