My cousin in Boise called my grandma's pickle recipe 'outdated' and it got me heated
We were going through old recipe cards and she said the 7-day fermented dill pickles were too much work compared to store vinegar quick pickles. She said nobody has time for that anymore. It hit different because that recipe got us through every summer when I was a kid, using cucumbers from our garden. What's a family food tradition you'd fight to keep alive?

Totally get that feeling. Honestly, some shortcuts just ruin the whole point. Like @alice991's brisket story, you can't buy that history. Those seven day pickles aren't just food, they're the taste of your grandma's garden and a whole summer in a jar. Tossing that recipe is like saying your family's time wasn't worth it. Some traditions are the glue, you know?

My buddy's uncle tried to replace their smoked brisket with a store-bought one for the reunion. It did not go over well.
