Found my great-grandma's handwritten recipe for 'Depression Cake' in a box of old photos.
I finally baked it yesterday, and the fact that something so simple, made without eggs or butter, could taste that good and connect me to her 1930s kitchen just hit different, you know?

Shows how modern life overcomplicates everything. We’ve forgotten how to make good stuff from almost nothing.

My grandpa fixed a broken radio with a paperclip and some tape back in the day. Miles_campbell39 has a point about us losing that kind of simple fix. Now I just order a new part online and wait for it to show up.

But sometimes a paperclip fix is just a band-aid on a bigger problem. My old car's AC would blow hot if a wire shook loose, and jamming it in place with tape just meant it failed again next week. Getting the right connector meant it stayed fixed. There's a place for both, you know? Simple hacks for a quick save, but real parts for a lasting fix.
