Rant: My brother-in-law, a finish carpenter, told me he never scribes baseboard to tile.

We were working on a kitchen together in Charlotte last week, and he just butted the base to the tile and caulked the gap. He said, 'It's a floating floor, it moves, a scribed piece will crack in a year.' I've always spent hours getting that perfect fit. But he's right, I've gone back to two jobs in the past 6 months where my scribe cracked. It hit different because it came from a guy who's just as picky as me, but in a different trade. How many of you actually scribe to LVP or engineered wood, or do you just leave a consistent gap and caulk?

What kind of caulk does he use that can handle that movement without cracking?

Oh man, been there. For big gaps that move, you gotta use an elastomeric sealant. The stretchy kind, not basic painter's caulk.
