My alarm clock used to be my radio, now it's a lamp
Back in 2012 I woke up to my clock radio blasting static and half a song, then had to fumble for the snooze button in the dark. Now I use a smart lamp that slowly brightens over 15 minutes, and I set my phone alarm as a backup at 6:45 AM. Anyone else swap a loud noise for light, or is that just me being weird about mornings?

Wait, did you really swap noise for light? I thought that was crazy talk until I tried a sunrise alarm last winter. I used to swear by blasting metal at full volume, but now the slow light plus a gentle phone chime actually gets me up without that jolt of panic. It feels less like being yanked out of bed and more like I’m just... waking up, if that makes sense.
